The layer of the Earth composed mainly of iron and nickel is the inner core. This innermost layer exists at extremely high temperatures and pressures and is solid due to the immense pressure. Surrounding the inner core is the outer core, which is liquid and also primarily composed of iron and nickel. The movement of molten iron in the outer core generates the Earth's magnetic field.
