Jomo Kenyatta was the prominent African leader involved in the fight against colonialism in Kenya. As a key figure in the Kenyan independence movement, Kenyatta was instrumental in advocating for the rights of the Kikuyu people and opposing British colonial rule. He was arrested during the Mau Mau Uprising in the 1950s but gained widespread support as a symbol of resistance. After his release, he became the first Prime Minister and later the first President of Kenya after its independence in 1963.
