The Tibetan resistance against Chinese control in the 1950s was predominantly led by Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama. Following the Chinese invasion of Tibet in 1950, which resulted in the Seventeen Point Agreement asserting Chinese sovereignty over Tibet, the Dalai Lama initially sought a diplomatic resolution. However, as Chinese policies became more oppressive, he emerged as a spiritual and political symbol of resistance. In 1959, after a failed uprising against Chinese rule, the Dalai Lama fled to India, where he continued to advocate for Tibetan autonomy and the preservation of Tibetan culture, gaining international support.
