Charlemagne is known as the "Father of Modern Europe." His reign as King of the Franks and later as Emperor of the Romans in the 9th century played a pivotal role in uniting much of Western Europe. Through military conquests, cultural revival, and administrative reforms, he laid the foundations for the emergence of modern nation-states and the Holy Roman Empire.
