The first two cities to suffer from atomic bombings in 1945 were Hiroshima and Nagasaki, both in Japan. On August 6, 1945, the United States dropped the atomic bomb known as "Little Boy" on Hiroshima, resulting in massive destruction and casualty. Three days later, on August 9, "Fat Man" was dropped on Nagasaki. These bombings played a significant role in hastening the end of World War II, leading to Japan's surrender on August 15, 1945.
