The primary occupation of the Knights during the Middle Ages was to serve as heavily armored cavalry and elite warriors in feudal society. Knights were typically bound by the code of chivalry, which emphasized loyalty, bravery, and honor in battle and in their conduct toward others, particularly women and the weak. Their training began in childhood, progressing from page to squire and finally to knight. In return for military service, knights were granted land, known as fiefs, by lords.
