The main cause of the Great Fire of London in 1666 was a fire that began in a bakery on Pudding Lane, owned by Thomas Farriner. The fire started in the early hours of September 2 and quickly spread due to the city's wooden buildings and narrow streets. Along with strong winds, these conditions exacerbated the situation, allowing the fire to consume a large part of London over four days. The Great Fire resulted in widespread devastation, destroying around 13,000 homes, numerous churches, and significant landmarks, including St. Paul's Cathedral.
