The Haitian Revolution had a profound impact on colonialism and the transatlantic slave trade. Taking place from 1791 to 1804, it was a successful revolt led by enslaved people in Saint-Domingue (present-day Haiti) against French colonial rule. It marked the first and only time that enslaved individuals organized and successfully overthrew their oppressors, resulting in the establishment of Haiti as the first independent Black republic.
