The battle that marked Napoleon's final defeat was the Battle of Waterloo, fought on June 18, 1815. It pitted Napoleon’s French forces against the Duke of Wellington’s Allied army, comprised of British and Dutch troops, alongside the Prussian army led by Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher. The defeat at Waterloo ended Napoleon's Hundred Days return from exile and effectively concluded his rule as Emperor of the French. Following this battle, Napoleon was exiled to the remote island of Saint Helena in the South Atlantic, where he spent the remaining years of his life.
