The Paris Peace Accords, signed in 1973, aimed to establish peace in Vietnam and end the Vietnam War. They provided a framework for the withdrawal of U.S. troops and stipulated a ceasefire between North and South Vietnam. The accords also called for the release of prisoners of war and established processes for political reconciliation in Vietnam. However, despite the agreements, fighting continued, leading to the eventual fall of Saigon in 1975. While the accords were significant milestones in diplomacy, they ultimately did not achieve lasting peace and stability in the region.
