The detrimental conflict associated with the unlawful internment of Japanese Americans during WWII was World War II itself. Following the attack on Pearl Harbor, the U.S. government forcibly relocated and confined approximately 120,000 Japanese Americans, many of whom were U.S. citizens, in internment camps based on fear and prejudice. This action has since been recognized as a violation of civil liberties and an example of wartime hysteria.
