The Treaty of Ghent, signed on December 24, 1814, effectively ended the War of 1812 between the United States and Great Britain. The treaty restored pre-war boundaries and returned territorial claims to their original status, thus nullifying any territorial gains made during the war. Importantly, it did not address the issues that sparked the conflict, such as impressment and maritime trade regulations.
