The strait that separates Russia from Alaska is called the Bering Strait. This narrow waterway connects the Arctic Ocean to the Bering Sea and is approximately 85 kilometers (53 miles) wide at its narrowest point. The Bering Strait is historically significant as it is believed to have served as a land bridge for the migration of humans and animals between Asia and North America during the last Ice Age.
