The organ in the body that helps you breathe is the lungs. The primary function of the lungs is to facilitate gas exchange, allowing oxygen to enter the bloodstream while expelling carbon dioxide. Each lung is divided into lobes, with the right lung typically having three lobes and the left lung having two to accommodate the heart. When you inhale, air travels through the trachea and into the bronchi, which branch into smaller airways within the lungs.
