The largest desert in Asia is the Gobi Desert. Spanning parts of Northern China and Southern Mongolia, it covers over 1.3 million square kilometers (around 500,000 square miles). Characterized by its harsh climate, the Gobi experiences extreme temperature variations between summer and winter and receives very little rainfall. Despite these conditions, the Gobi is home to a variety of species, including camels, snow leopards, and several types of reptiles. The desert also has significant historical importance as part of the ancient Silk Road trade route, contributing to the exchange of goods and culture between East and West.
