A comet is a type of celestial object composed primarily of ice, dust, and rocky material, often described as "dirty snowballs." When a comet approaches the Sun, the heat causes the ice to sublimate, releasing gas and dust that form a glowing coma and two distinct tails: the ion tail and the dust tail. These features give comets their spectacular appearance, which can be visible from Earth. Comets originate from distant regions of the solar system, such as the Kuiper Belt and Oort Cloud, and are of great interest to astronomers for their potential insights into the early solar system and the origins of water on Earth.
