An emu is a large flightless bird native to Australia and is the second-largest living bird in the world, following the ostrich. It belongs to the ratite group, which includes other large, flightless birds such as ostriches, cassowaries, and kiwis. Emus have long necks, sturdy legs, and soft, brownish feathers. They can reach heights of up to six feet and are known for their speed, capable of running at speeds of up to 30 miles per hour. Emus primarily inhabit open grasslands, forests, and scrublands, and their diet consists largely of fruits, seeds, and insects.
