Developed by Dr. Tetsuya Fujita, the scale ranges from F0 to F5, with F0 representing minor damage with wind speeds under 73 mph, and F5 indicating catastrophic damage with winds exceeding 200 mph. The scale assesses tornado strength based on the destruction it leaves behind, including the impact on buildings, trees, and other structures. In 2007, the Enhanced Fujita scale was introduced, which recalibrated the damage indicators but still maintains the same basic category structure for tornado classification.
