The term for the sound produced by an object moving faster than the speed of sound is "sonic boom." This phenomenon occurs when an object, such as an aircraft, travels through air at speeds exceeding Mach 1, which is approximately 343 meters per second (1,125 feet per second) at sea level. When this happens, the object compresses the sound waves in front of it, creating a powerful shockwave. The resulting sound can be heard as a loud explosion or boom as the waves catch up with the listener.
