The capital of the Ivory Coast (Côte d'Ivoire) is Yamoussoukro. Although Abidjan is the largest city and the economic hub of the country, Yamoussoukro was designated as the political capital in 1983. This city is known for its significant landmarks, including the Basilica of Our Lady of Peace, which is one of the largest churches in the world. Yamoussoukro has a more laid-back atmosphere compared to Abidjan and is less densely populated. The city's selection as the capital was part of a national effort to promote development outside of Abidjan, reflecting the country’s diverse regional characteristics.
