A newborn kangaroo is called a joey. When kangaroos are born, they are extremely small and underdeveloped, weighing less than an ounce. At birth, the joey immediately crawls into its mother’s pouch, where it attaches to a teat to continue its development. This pouch provides a safe and nurturing environment, allowing the joey to grow for several months before it is ready to emerge.
