Guy Fawkes Night, also known as Bonfire Night, commemorates the failed Gunpowder Plot of 1605, in which a group of English Catholics, including Guy Fawkes, attempted to blow up the Houses of Parliament in London. The plot aimed to assassinate King James I and restore Catholic rule in England. When the conspiracy was discovered, Fawkes and others were arrested, and Fawkes was executed. The event is marked every November 5th with bonfires, fireworks, and the burning of effigies of Fawkes, serving as a reminder of the historical events and the consequences of political dissent.
